How the Gallery Works

The Locations Gallery is an extremely useful visual resource for anyone scouting locations to be used in Film and Television productions.

Locations in the Gallery are organised in to Categories and Sub-Categories. You can browse through these listings to find an appropriate spot.

Each Location has been assigned a detailed list of keywords, an “ambience”, as well as up to 8 photographs (each with time and season information).

The Gallery is searchable by keywords and ambience, which combine with search results containing thumbnail pictures and brief descriptions, to make “spotting” a location as efficient as possible.

Browsing - Click on the Locations Gallery menu button to display the Categories and Sub-Categories. The number indicates how many images are included within each Sub-Category.

Quick Search - Click on the Quick Search menu button to perform keyword-based searches across all Categories. You can also restrict your search results to any number of "Ambiences".
There is an optional Map Search for finding locations within a particular geographic area.

Search Results - Are displayed alphabetically and contain a thumbnail of the location as well as Name and Brief Description. Click on any of these objects to view the Location Details. This will pop-up in a new window.

Location Details - By default the first image for the location will be loaded, if there are additional pics they will appear vertically in the filmstrip on the left of the page. To view a different photo simply click on its thumbnail in the filmstrip. The large version will now be loaded in the main area. You will notice that each photograph has a Time and Month/Season recorded to assist you in planning.
To print the current photograph simply press the Print Current Image button at the top of the page.
To add the current Location to your Portfolio click on the Add to Portfolio button.

Your Portfolio - This is a collection of Locations that you can email to colleagues or yourself for future reference.

When you choose to add a Location to the portfolio, you will be prompted to add a comment specific to that location, such as a note regarding a production scene. After adding the comment the Location will appear in your Portfolio list with Name and your Comment.
You can then click the Return to Gallery button to continue browsing and adding Locations to your Portfolio in the same manner.

  • To Update Comments simply check the box beside any Locations you wish to change, make the amendment then choose "Update Comments" from the options below the list and click "Perform Action".
  • To Remove Location/s simply check the box beside any you wish to remove from the list, then choose "Remove Items" from the options and click "Perform Action".
  • To Email the Portfolio simply check the boxes besides the Locations you wish to include. Follow the instructions on the page then choose "Email Items" from the options and click "Perform Action".

You will receive a carbon copy of the email.

We trust that you will find the Film Central Locations Gallery a useful resource.
