Forbes Council

Forbes "the Town on the Billabong" offers a unique picturesque refreshing outlook on a rural area in the Central West of NSW. Located 360 kms west of Sydney on the Newell Highway, access to the shire is easily available.

The area offers a diverse range from National Parks and reserves to flat contrasting landscapes, bolstered by the river country of greenery and vibrance. In the township itself many aspects venture back to the 1800’s and the gold rush era through the historic buildings. Many of these buildings have already featured on the big screen through the hit movie “The Dish”. Majority of the filming for the movie was done in Forbes, which included buildings, extras and incidentals. Many locals assisted with the production. Forbes Shire Council is proactive, when an enquiry is made and is willing to help by appointing key staff to assist.
