Parkes Council



Emerging as a gold rush town of the 1800s, Parkes has progressed to become a thriving commercial centre with a prosperous future. With a town population of 10,500 and a total shire population of 15,300, Parkes services the townships of Peak Hill, Alectown, Bogan Gate, Trundle and Tullamore. Parkes Shire has many unique attractions including the Parkes Radio Telescope, which achieved notoriety in the hit Australian movie "The Dish".The Shire has some very diverse physical features from flat to undulating hills and woodlands to open grasslands.

The region is located on the western edge of the Great Dividing Range and is a catchment area for the Bogan and Lachlan rivers.
